FG orders Varsity, Polytechnic, Coe Heads to publish key institutional data – Thage

The Federal Government has directed all the leaders of the Federal Universities, the Polytechnics and Education Colleges to publish critical institutional data on their official websites with immediate effect.

The Directive, issued by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, is part of a wider strategy to institutionalize transparency, responsibility and good government in the management of the Nigeria tertiary education system.

According to a declaration signed by the director of the press and public relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, BorioWo Folasade, the move is also aimed at aligning the administration of Nigeria higher education with the best global practices.

Dr. Alausa stated that the directive requires the institutions to publish complete details of their annual budget allocations, including a complete distribution of the expenses between personnel expenses, general expenses and capital disbursements.

“In addition, the institutions are required to disseminate the revenues of the subsidies for the research from the previous year, clearly outlining between subsidies of local origin, such as those from national industries, government agencies and foundations – and subsidies obtained from international partners, including foreign institutions and multilateral organizations”, said the minister.

The directive also includes the mandatory publication of the Tetfund allocation of the Institution for the current year, specifying the total amount received and its use for academic and infrastructure development.

In addition, institutions must publish the total value of their equipment funds at the end of the previous year. Dr. Alausa underlined that this long-term financial support for institutional-deve financial support for firmly updated quarterly to guarantee transparency and financial accuracy.

The minister also directed that the institutions must disclose their total enrollments as students, divided into university and post -laurea categories to reflect the actual institutional capacity and population.

“All data must be presented in a clear, accessible and intuitive format to ensure the ease of access by students, parents, researchers and interested parties. The structure of institutional websites must allow navigation and understanding without continuity of these critical data points,” he said.

It has observed that all federal tertiary institutions must respect the directive no later than 31 May 2025, warning that the Federal Education Ministry would have carried out regular conformity audits and apply adequate administrative sanctions to the institutions found.

“This policy is a fundamental component of the government reform agenda to improve public confidence in the Nigeria higher education sector, guide services based on performance and improve the country’s global education rankings,” said the minister.

Alausa has urged the vice-changers, the rectors and the auditions to treat the directive with the urgency it deserves, adding that it is the key to restoring the institutional integrity and positioning of the tertiary institutions of Nigeria for international competitiveness.
