The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised the Nigerians to travel abroad to make the point of duty to register with the Nigerian mission in their host country to be granted a timely intervention in the event of emergencies.

The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ambassador Ahmed Dunoma, presented this appeal while receiving a delegation from the association of the Diplomatic correspondents of Nigeria, (Dican), led by its president, Frederick Idehai Frederick.

The permanent secretary, while citing a recent accident in which the Nigerians were trapped in the Central African Republic and some individuals, in particular on social media, attempted to obscure the image of the ministry stressed that the Ministry, the Embassies and the consulates of Nigeria should be informed of their presence during the arrival not when they embarked in trouble.

He said: “I recommend the Nigerians to make the point of duty to make known their presence at the Nigerian mission in the country they are visiting.

“This simple step can help prevent misunderstandings and ensure that the Nigerians receive the support they need in times of crisis.

“There was a recent case of Nigerians trapped in the Central African Republic, where some Nigerians tried to give a bad name to the ministry,” he said.

Dunoma, while highlighting the importance of the timely dissemination of information, has also requested a deeper collaboration between the Ministry and the Association of the correspondents of Nigeria (Dican) diplomats in order to combat disinformation and disinformation.

He said Dican and the ministry share a common goal of promoting a positive image of Nigeria.

“Most of the time, given the necessary information before people will also ask for information, it is crucial in the effective management of crises.

“We are saddled by the role of recycling of the country’s image. Therefore, the inevitability of a strengthened collaboration between Dican and the Ministry.

“This partnership is essential to ensure that accurate information on Nigeria are disseminated to the public, both locally and internationally,” he said.

The permanent secretary expressed gratitude to Dican for the organization of the recent world -class diplomatic conference, which has brought together seventy diplomats, security, intelligence, academics, business organizations, civil companies among the other parties interested to make brainstorming on how to make the world a safer and better place to live.

He declared that the conference had enriched discussions on the security and impact of the 4DS political direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the administration in improving the foreign image of Nigeria in the face of disinformation.

He said: “I thank Dican for putting the program together. He discussed the security and promote a positive image of Nigeria and guarantee the safety and well -being of our citizens abroad.

“By working together, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Dican can promote a more accurate understanding of the role of Nigeria in international affairs and face the challenges posed by disinformation and disinformation.

“We have many challenges, but it is our duty to ensure that positive narrative is given out there because we must be patriotic.

“I think we have to sit, work together and see how we can also be proactive.”

By presenting a prize of excellence to the permanent secretary, the president of Dican, Frederick Idehai, urged greater support to ensure that the association performs his programs for setting up the agenda.

“The permanent secretary has shown the commitment to work with Dican and we appreciate his efforts in promoting a positive image of Nigeria,” said Idehai.
