The federal government warned the Nigerians to ignore a false advertisement that circulates on social media that uses artificial intelligence to impersonate President Bola Tinubu in promoting a Ponzi program.

The government described the announcement, which made trend on Facebook, as fraudulent and a dangerous tool of disinformation deliberately designed to deceive unaware citizens.

The General Manager of the Nigeria (Arcon) advertising Council, dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, released the warning in a statement on Thursday.

“This is to inform the general public to be careful of a false advertising generated by the AI ​​using the image and video of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in soliciting investments in a Ponzi scheme,” said Fadolapo.

Arcon, an agency under the federal ministry of information and national orientation, clarified that advertising has never been presented for control, nor was it approved for the transmission in Nigeria.

The Council also warned that those who behind the false content were violating the provisions of the Arcon Act n. 23 of 2022, underlining that the sanctions would follow in line with the law.

As they urge the media owners, the advertisers and the public generally to exercise supervision, the DG has reiterated Arcon’s commitment to build an ethical advertising space that protects Nigerian consumers from deception and fraud.

He added that only truthful advertising, responsible and approved will be allowed in circulation in the future.
