First Lady, Tinubu gives n1 billion to fight cervical cancer in Nigeria – Thage

Since World Health Day is commemorated globally, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu invited the Nigerians, in particular women to speak and ask for adequate help every time they have medical challenges.

Speaking while receiving a delegation of the National Task Force on the elimination of cervical cancer led by the Minister of State for health and social well -being, dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, First Lady stressed that nobody chooses a disorder for themselves, there is no need to be ashamed to seek help.

“They are in support of what you are doing. We are on the way especially with the approach you have adopted, test, screen, vaccinated and treatment”

“A healthy nation is a rich nation”.
Senator Oltemi Tinubu observed that the fight against cancer can be won if patients present in advance and seek medical intervention.

“The theme for World Health Day this year, early healthy; future hope, I think it is so suitable for what we are doing here today. I think you said that most of my work is 70% healthy. A healthy nation is a rich nation. It doesn’t matter what wealth you have as a nation, if your population or the majority of your population is sick, it is only the poor as far as I am concerned”.

The First Lady on behalf of the renewed Hope initiative therefore donated a billion Naira to the National Cancer Fund to fight the flage of cervical cancer in Nigeria,

In his previous observations, the Minister of State for Health and Social Wellness, dr. Iziaq Salako noticed with the appreciation of the effect of the First Lady which lent her voice to the introduction of the vaccine against the HPV in the country’s immunization program of the country.

He said that this translated into the ministry is able to immunize 12 million girls aged between 9 and 13 years in the first 9 months of his introduction.

Dr. Iziaq Salako said the ministry hopes to immunize 6 million girls this year.
The president of the Task Force on the elimination of cervical cancer and the former Minister of Health, Prof. Issac Adventure was of the opinion that First Lady has shown an unusual political will supporting and reporting the introduction of the HPV vaccine in the country’s immunization program of the country.

He said that the target of 8 by 8 (immunizing 8 girls every year) will be achieved by eliminating cervical cancer by 2030 if the First Lady lends its voice and also joins the campaign that goes through 12 states this year and 12 other states next year.

The representative of the country of the World Health Organization, which dr. Walter Multombo appealed to the First Lady to lead the campaign by noting that every child and woman have the right to live.
The visit of the Task Force on the elimination of cervical cancer at the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oloremi Tinubu also coincides with the commemoration of the World Health Day, 2025 with the theme “Heathy Beginning;
