The Federal Government has issued a new warning regarding potential flooding in parts of the country, warning residents in 10 states to prepare for heavy rain between April 8 and April 12, 2026.
The warning, issued by the National Flood Early Warning Center under the Federal Ministry of Environment, highlights several communities that may be affected during the forecast period.
“The following locations and their surrounding areas are likely to experience heavy rainfall that may cause flooding in the forecast period: April 8 – April 12, 2026,” the notice said.
According to the ministry, areas in Ebonyi, Anambra, Ogun, Taraba, Cross River, Benue, Imo, Delta, Rivers and Abia states are expected to experience rainfall heavy enough to trigger flooding.
Specific locations identified include Afikpo and Nkalagu in Ebonyi; Atani, Iyowa Odekpe, Odekpe and Onitsha in Anambra; and Ayetoro and Ilaro in Ogun State.
In Taraba, communities such as Donga, Kwata Kanawa, Lau, Serti, Takum and Yorro are listed, along with Edor, Ikom and Itigidi in Cross River State.

Other areas marked in the commemoration are Igumale in Benue; Nworievbi, Okigwe, Otoko, and Owerri in Imo; Oko Anara in Delta; Port Harcourt on the River; and Umuahia in Abia State.
The ministry reiterated that the affected locations and surrounding areas are expected to experience rainfall that “could cause flooding” within the specified timeframe.
This latest warning follows previous advisories from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the Federal Government warning farmers against early planting due to “deceptive” early rains recorded in February and early March 2026.
Likewise, the Lagos State Government in March warned its citizens to prepare for heavy rains and possible flash floods when the rainy season arrives.
Authorities are now urging residents and relevant stakeholders in the affected areas to take precautionary measures to minimize potential damage and ensure safety.
