A former military administrator of the State of Katsina, Joseph Akaagger, died. He was 69 years old.
Akaagger, born on May 5, 1956, retired from the Nigerian army as a colonel.
He represented Benue Northeast in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from 2007 to 2011.
The Governor of the State of Katsina, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, who confirmed the death of Akaaggerer said he had received the news of the disappearance of Colonel Joseph Iorshagher Akaagger, with shock and pain.
Radda said that Akaagger served as a military administrator of the State of Katsine from August 1998 to May 1999.
Governor Radda said he remembered the immense contributions of Col. Akaagger to the state during a critical transition period in the history of Nigeria.
“In the short but of great impact he spent guiding the affairs of our state, he built bridges that resisted the test of time.
“Today we are not only crying a former military administrator: we cry a brother who linked Katsina and Benue with friendship strings that death cannot recover,” said the governor.
He noticed that Colonel Akaagger has personified the ideal of service above himself.
He continued in a statement by Mknday, 19 May 2025 released on his behalf by his main press secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed: “After his distinct military career and his administration in Katsina, he returned to his state of origin where the people of the Benue Nord Est entrusted him with their mandate as a senator in April 2007.
“The life of Colonel Akaagger has exemplified the rare combination of military discipline, legal brilliance and unwavering commitment for democratic values”
Governior Radda on behalf of the government and the good people of the State of Katsina, expressed condolences to the governor Hyacinth at the State of Benue and the Akaagger family following the disappearance of an elderly statesman.
The governor also stressed that the deceased colonel Akaagger could be Benue’s son by birth, but became the son of Katsina by service.
“While greeting this legal luminary, the distinct soldier and the true servant of the people, we find comfort in the bequests of the unity, altruistic service and unrivaled integrity that has left the last time. God may forgive his deficiencies and may find his family to find the strength to bear this irreparable loss”, prayed to the governor.
