Former Zamfara senator, Kabiru Marafa, ditches ADC for NDC

Former Zamfara senator, Kabir Marafa, on Tuesday officially handed over the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

This development marks a significant change in the political landscape of the North West and is expected to increase the NDC’s influence in the region.

The National Leader of the party, Senator Seriake Dickson, announced the defection at a high-level meeting attended by party leaders, stakeholders and supporters in Abuja.

Marafa in August 2025 resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on April 8.

Welcoming the former lawmaker, Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West Senatorial District, described Marafa’s entry as strategic and symbolic of the broader political realignment ahead of upcoming electoral activities.

He praised Marafa’s track record of public service, integrity and commitment to justice.

The former Bayelsa governor described him as a “strong and reliable force” whose experience will strengthen the party’s vision of inclusive governance.

Dickson said the NDC was founded on the principles of service, unity and people-oriented leadership, with a focus on addressing insecurity, economic hardship and social inequality across Nigeria.

He said the party remains committed to building a platform that accommodates all Nigerians—especially youth, women and vulnerable groups—while restoring public trust in government.

NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, described Marafa’s defection as a milestone for the party.

“Today marks another milestone for our party, another feather added to our cap.

“This rescue mission, as we see, was initiated by God through His political servants—our mentors and party leaders.

“Today, there is hardly anyone familiar with Nigerian politics who does not know the eminent Senator Marafa. He has identified his political allies, friends and brothers, to join this movement and help steer it to safety.

“On behalf of the National Panja, we express our joy. We are happy. Marafa’s arrival also indicates that perhaps other countries will follow,” he said.
