Foundation sensitises 1000 students on skills acquisition in Abuja

The Ladi Memorial Foundation (LMF) has sensitized over 1000 female students on the need to acquire a skill in order to become economically self reliance, thereby contributing positively to the family and the society at large.

Speaking after visiting three secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to celeberate the International Day of the Girl Child, the Executive Secretary of LMF, Mrs Rosemary Ojochenemi Osikoye reaffirmed the importance of the girl chid learning a skill.

“The theme of the international Day of the girl child 2023, is our time is now, our rights our future. If you look at that very closely when we talk about the future, the future starts now with the empowerment of the girl to become economically independent.

“If you look at the society, the girl child is already disadvantage in many ways which is why It is important for her to have a functional skills for livelihood, whether they are professional skills or just occupational skills that help their everyday survival and also help them to manage their homes better”.

Osikoye explained that “all of this boils down to what happens to the girl child when the girl child is in school. She can actually make income and become self reliant because the essence of the Nigeria education system is to have people who are adjusted and who are productive”.

She said it was sad that some cultural mindset are of the view that the girl child is only there to be taken care of, “You know, most people do not think the female child has any economic importance other than producing children” the ES lamented.

Also speaking at the visits, the Director Mass Education of the FCTA, Halilaf Alayande told the students to be deliberate on the path they wanted to choose in order to achieve success in life.

She warned them against immoral act, the use of hard drugs and collection of gifts from men as a means to escape poverty, stating that the power of a woman lies in what she can do with her hands that would bring her money.

Alayande charged the girls to pick up a skill, something the love and learn it well. “It is now that you will work for your tommorow’s success, so i advised that you should take skills Acquisition seriously as you are taking your studies”.

The Foundation visited Junior secondary school, Pyakasa, Senior secondary Pyakasa and Nigeria-Korea Model School Piwoye distributing Bags, Sport wears and sanitary towels to the female students after the sensitization programme.
