Associates and friends of the deceased legal luminary, the chief Gani Fawehinmi (San) asked for the demolition of a four -story condominium built right next to his family home in Gra, Ikeja. They said that the building represents a threat to the life and property of his family.
Speaking during a press conference during a press conference held at the home of the late Fawehinmi on Friday, the coalition includes the lawyer for human rights, Femi Falana, senior supporter of Nigeria (San), Adeyink Olumide-Fusika a senior lawyer of Nigeria (Avandu Ugwuzor, Richard Akinnola, Edetaen Ojode, Bayo, Bayo Alabidun, Avanre and Aborisade, the associates have accused the owners of the condominium of having ignored the laws and guidelines governing real estate development in the state of Lagos and puts the lives and ownership of the deceased head of the head of Capo Gani at risk.
The condominium was erected by the fence that protects the front of the House of Capo Gani in Ikeja Gra.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Olumide-Fusika, he said: “An individual or a group of individuals, who acts in total contempt for the rules and regulations that guide real estate development in the state of Lagos have decided to erect a four-storey hotel- a so-called apartment just from the fence that protects the front of the chief house of Gani.” He also mentioned how a 1000 -liter water tank had fallen three times overall, every time placing serious risk for the life of the fawehinmi.
“Apart from the fact that the house that protects the chief Gani Fawehinmi has to face an imminent collapse, we wish to inform you that a 1000 -liter water tank installed on top of this four -story structure has been collapsed three times and fell in the head of Gani Fawehinmi from this same apartment. We are lucky that they have not been injured by these accidents. Capo Gani and demonstrates the critical nature of these problems since the lives of the members of the Chief Gani family are really in clear danger, “he said.
Olumide-Fusika, expressed its disappointment for the ineffectiveness of the construction companies.
He said: “See uniforms everywhere, the police, the local government, yet there is no security anywhere. As we can have all these agencies in the state of Lagos established to prevent this type of development, yet they happen every day. This is only one on many”.
Falana also told an accident in which one of the children of Capo Gani stated that the complex was cluttered with debris from the condominium. He reiterated that no one is above the law and the regulations of the building must therefore be applied to the demolition of the building.
Following these accidents, the group has given three reasons why the condominium should be demolished; The fact that the building should be cut down because the state urban development of Lagos and the building standards violates, which established that there must be a minimum of three meters of space between the structures, could serve as a safe refuge for anyone who has a mischievous intent against the family and represents a permanent threat to the safety and safety of the lives and ownership in the chief house of Gani.
The group also asked that the state government of Lagos examined those who approved the construction of the apartment and highlights adequate punishment.
