The Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, CFR, has commended the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) for its technological advancements, product innovations and interventions in various sectors of the economy.
The Chief of Staff made the statement during a familiarization visit to the Agency on Thursday, August 22, 2024, together with the Deputy Chief of Staff, Senator Ibrahim Hadeija; and the Permanent Secretary of the State House, Eng. Olufunso Adebiyi.
Gbajabiamila took time to test drive NASENI’s electric pick-up truck and visited NASENI Hatch Box, Innovation Hub, Solar Irrigation Pump and was shown new products such as home solar power, prepaid meter, laptop, smartphone and battery pack among others.
The visit was part of engagements with government agencies under the Presidency’s oversight to understand their mandates, activities and challenges and how they align with the current administration’s Agenda for Renewed Hope.
Speaking after an inspection tour of the NASENI complex in Idu Industrial Area and seeing first-hand the new projects and products initiated by NASENI Executive Vice President/CEO, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, since assuming office in September 2023, Gbajabiamila thanked the EVC and management for the warm welcome.
He said, “I am glad that I have taken this journey. I am glad that we are all here to see with our own eyes where NASENI is and what it is doing. The idea behind this journey was actually to come and feel for ourselves, and see on the ground what you are doing, how you are doing it, what are the challenges and so on.
“This way we can understand what needs to be done, if there are gaps here and there. I’m glad you demonstrated what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. I’m even more glad there are no challenges from what you said. I’m honestly very impressed with what we’ve seen and heard,” he said.
The president’s chief of staff said that Mr. Halilu’s impact has translated into many products in 11 months, which speaks volumes about his commitment, dedication and passion for what he does. “So, kudos to you and the rest of the team,” he added.
He further stressed that we live in an era dominated by technology and NASENI is one of the key government agencies for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope programme, which aims to place Nigeria among the nations in terms of advancements in science and technology.
“I think we have what it takes as a country, not only material resources but, more importantly, human resources,” adding that “there are intelligent people, young men and women in this country who can do their best in terms of advancing our technology. Thank you very much for what you are doing.”
Previously, NASENI’s EVC took time to explain to the Chief of Staff the various innovations, interventions and partnerships the Agency has initiated in recent months to promote technology transfer and align NASENI’s mandate with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Your Excellency, under your guidance and the leadership of His Excellency, President Tinubu, we have embarked on a transformational journey. This journey is characterized by an accelerated push towards technological independence and industrial growth. It is through your unstinting support and that of your team that we have been able to make great strides in achieving these goals,” Halilu added.
