Global technology giant Google, Microsoft, and Tiktok have confirmed to deactivate 13.5 million joint accounts in Nigeria as part of a strong action on fraud, dangerous, and policy violation activities.
This development was expressed in their latest compliance and transparency report submitted to the Nigerian authority, detailing how each company increases law enforcement steps in one of the largest digital markets in Africa.
Per report, millions of accounts are marked for problems ranging from SPAM, wrong information, and imitation to child safety violations, copyright violations, and coordinated non -authentic behavior.

“The announcement occurred after submitting a 2024 compliance report under the practice code for interactive computer service platforms and internet intermediaries, a framework issued jointly by Nitda, Nigeria Communication Commission, and the National Broadcasting Commission,” said the National Information Technology Development Agency in a statement released on Wednesday, August 20.
Submission of a report, according to a statement issued by Hadiza Umar, Director of Corporate Communication and Nitda Media Relations, is a big step in making the internet a safer and more responsible place for Nigerian users.
“The submission of this report marks a significant step towards fostering a safer and more responsible digital environment for Nigerian users,” the regulator said. “Building a safer digital space requires collaboration and continuous involvement among all stakeholders. We remain committed to working with industrial players, civil society, and regulatory partners to strengthen user safety steps, increase digital literacy, and promote trust and transparency in the Nigerian digital ecosystem.” The statement issued by Nitda was read in part.
