Gospel singer, eight more imprisoned for computer crime in Kwara

An self-acclaimed evangelical musician and eight other people have been sentenced and sentenced to various terms of prison by the courts in the state of Kwara for their involvement in cyber crimes.

The commission for economic and financial crimes (EFCC), through its Zonal Directorate of Ilorin, obtained the convictions both at the Federal High Court and on the high court of the State of Kwara in Ilorin.

Otitoju, who claimed to be a popular artist to the social functions of Lokoja, was sentenced for maintaining N8.4 million, being income of illegal activities, in his bank account.

According to the spokesman for the FECC delewale, the offense of Otitoju marks section 17 (a) and (b) of the EFCC law, 2004.

Three more – Ayodele Joseph, Adeoye Joseph and Abubakar Aliyu Abdulmalik – were sentenced together with Otitoju with similar accusations.

Ayodele was sentenced to eight months without a fine option after N243,750 was tracked down on his account. The judge Awogboro also ordered the decline of his Techno phone to the federal government.

Adeoye Joseph, also of the state of Kogi, has obtained a prison without a fine option and lost $ 220, an iPhone 13 and a pop 9 techno in government.

Abubakar was given six months behind the bars and ordered to give up his iPhone 16 and Samsung S10 in the federal government.

The public ministries of the Fcc Aliyu Adebayo, Sesan Ola, Rashidat Alao and Mustapha Kaigama led the team that held confessional statements and exhibitions during the trial.

In a separate sentence, the judges Haleema Saleman and Sulaiman Akanbi of the high court of the state of Kwara also condemned five more: Emeka Oluwatobi Achi, Isaac Baballa Oluwafemi, Afolabi Faith Otoye, Zubeiriru Zubeiru Junior and Abdulkadir Taofeek.

Judge Akanbi sentenced Abdulkadir to three years of imprisonment with an option of a N500,000 fine, in addition to the decline of N800,000, an iPhone 14 Pro Max and a Samsung phone.

Justice Saleeman gave Emeka, Isaac and Afolabi for six months of imprisonment with an option of a fine n100,000. Emeka was also ordained to repay N3.35 million within three months and to report bisectors with his parents at the EFCC office until the amount is completely refunded.

The development increases the growing number of convictions guaranteed by the EFCC as it intensifies the efforts to block on the fraud on the internet across the country.

The commission urged the public, in particular young people, to avoid internet tied crimes and to commit themselves to legitimate initiatives, warning that no social status would have protected anyone from the accusation.
