Governor Abiodun unveils plans to launch electric bike initiative

The Ogun State government has finalized plans to introduce electric bicycles as part of the energy transition initiative of the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration.

The launch, scheduled for Wednesday next week, represents the second phase of the administration’s electric mobility program, following the launch of CNG-powered buses last year.

Governor Abiodun, speaking during a meeting with the Minister of Transport, Senator Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali, in Abuja, Thursday, described the planned introduction as a significant step towards sustainable transport solutions in the state.

Prince Abiodun also said the introduction would further reduce transport fares across the state, noting that gas and electricity were cheaper than petrol-powered transport systems.

The governor said: “We met with the Minister of Transport, Senator Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali, to discuss the imminent launch of Phase 2 of our energy transition plan in Ogun State.

“This phase, focused on our electric mobility program, will see the introduction of electric bicycles, marking a significant step towards sustainable transportation solutions in our state.

“The meeting underlined our commitment to promoting alternative sources of clean energy, which are essential to address current economic challenges and transportation costs.

“We are thrilled to announce that the official launch of this initiative will take place on Wednesday, July 31st at the Arcade Ground, Secretariat of State, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

“This event will not only showcase our commitment to environmental sustainability, but also our focus on innovative public-private partnerships that support the ‘Building our Future Together’ agenda.”
