Governor Mbah urges unity for economic growth on Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has called for national unity and inclusive economic development as Nigeria celebrates its 64th anniversary of independence.

Speaking at a special church service at the Government House Chapel on Sunday, Mbah stressed that this milestone reflects the resilience of the Nigerian people.

The governor highlighted the important role of government in promoting democracy and stated that the country can only prosper if all citizens feel included. “Our message as a nation is to unite, build an inclusive economy, and I think that is where this country’s economy is headed,” said Mbah.

He also urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration and local leadership to achieve the country’s economic aspirations. “We are making steady progress. We may progress little by little. “Perhaps what we need to examine now is whether the marginal or gradual progress we have achieved is sufficient or whether we have to think about ways to apply disruptive innovation to leapfrog some of the development challenges we face,” he stressed.

In his homily, Wilfred Agubuchie, Diocesan Secretary/Chancellor of Enugu Catholic Diocese, called on political leaders to prioritize the common good in their governance. He praised Mbah’s innovative leadership, particularly highlighting the country’s tax reform as a significant step towards fulfilling government responsibilities.
