Groups support Nigerian government’s military plan to fight bandits in Northwest

Three prominent groups in the North have backed the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle’s comprehensive military operation to combat banditry in the North-West.

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Northern Consciousness Network and North West Solidarity Forum commended Matawalle’s initiative and stressed the need for decisive action against the bandits terrorizing the region.

The groups spoke in separate statements released in Kaduna on Sunday, by AYCF President-General, Yerima Shettima, NAN Chairman, Salihu Suleiman and NWSF spokesperson, Tanimu Danlawal.

The minister plans to deploy military assets to Sokoto State to boost joint military operations against bandits.

The strategic headquarters of the operation will be in Sokoto, with the Chief of Defence Staff and other senior military officers joining Matawalle.

The groups praised the initiative and stressed the importance of a coordinated response to threats to national security.

They urged governmental and non-governmental organizations to join forces in promoting transparent and effective dialogue in the region.

The group acknowledged the challenges posed by persistent violence and crime, and pledged to work with government officials, security agencies and local communities to ensure a safe and secure future for all citizens.

The statement read: “Recognizing the challenges posed by persistent violence and crime, the AYCF recognizes that the implementation of this effective military strategy is critical to restoring safety and security.

“We are committed to working with government officials, security agencies and local communities to ensure a safe and secure future for all citizens.

“We are confident that through collaboration and shared commitment, the region can overcome adversity and pave the way for sustainable development. We reaffirm our dedication to working with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders to realize a safer Nigeria.”
