A torrential downpour that hit Pokiskum, Yobe State, in the early hours of Friday he submerged several communities, thinning hundreds of residents and destroying the properties.
The state management agency of emergency (traffic) listed the affected areas such as old prison, Filin Mashe, Ungwar Makafi, Ungwar Jaje Bakin Kwari, Afghanistan, Tsangaya, Karofi, Bayan Garejin Dan Juma, Jigawa Bayan, Makarahuta and Tandari.
The executive secretary of the traffic light, dr. Mohammed Goje confirmed that the emergency notices were received shortly after the start of the rain, causing the immediate deployment of the field teams for a rapid evaluation and intervention.
“So far no loss of human lives has been recorded, but our detailed evaluation is in progress. The Government will ensure that the support, protection and immediate importance reach all affected people,” said Goje.
The Governor Mai Mala Buni ordered traffic lights to provide rapid rescue materials to the victims, reaffirming the commitment of his administration to safeguard lives and properties.
He urged the residents to remain vigilant during the rainy season and promptly report emergencies to the competent authorities.
The Nigerian meteorological agency (Nimet) had previously felt of strong rains in some parts of the State of Yobe, providing for sudden floods, river floods and soil erosion. Residents were recommended to adopt precautionary measures to reduce the impact.
The current weather forecasts indicate a probability of 100 % rain in Pokiskum with probable thunderstorms and temperatures that reach the peak at 79 Β° F.
Government agencies affirm to intensify efforts to mitigate the effects of floods and restore normality in affected communities.
