FCT minister admits failure on livestock threat, says government has made progress on infrastructure but ‘we’re not saying we’ve done 100%’

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has apologized to residents over the continued presence of roaming cows on major roads in Abuja.

Wike spoke at his monthly media briefing on Friday, taking personal responsibility for the persistent livestock menace in the nation’s capital.

—“I take responsibility”—

“I apologize because so far there are cows roaming the streets of Abuja, I take responsibility for it,” the FCT minister said.

He acknowledged that despite ongoing efforts to improve the land, stray livestock remains a concern for residents and motorists.

—Infrastructural Progress vs. Unfinished Business—

Wike, however, said the FCT administration has recorded significant progress in infrastructure and service delivery, with projects extending beyond the city center to satellite towns and rural communities.

“I’m not saying that the government has done everything. But if you are actually a resident of Abuja, can you, in truth, say that you don’t feel the impact of this government?” he asked.

“Forget your feelings, forget the fact that I want my village man to be president, forget the fact that I want my statesman to be president. If you actually stayed in Abuja, would you say this government has had no impact?”

—No claims 100%—

The minister stressed that the administration does not claim to have resolved all of the FCT’s challenges.

“We’re not saying we did 100%. If we did 100%, we don’t need to say, ‘OK, give me another chance’. But there is hope,” Wike added.

He urged residents to evaluate the administration based on visible projects rather than political sentiments.
