Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface says he deserves to be the next African Player of the Year ahead of his international teammate Ademola Lookman, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Boniface had a great debut season in Germany with Leverkusen, who were only beaten in the Europa League final, ironically thanks to an Ademola Lookman hat trick that gave Atalanta a 3-0 victory.
Lookman also had a very good tournament at the AFCON, where he scored three goals for the Super Eagles, who fell runners-up losing 1-2 to hosts Ivory Coast.
An injury forced Boniface into the tournament, but he finished the season on a high by winning the German Bundesliga and also the German Cup, scoring a total of 21 goals and ten assists in 34 games.
“Probably between Lookman and me. “I rate myself that high,” the 23-year-old told SportyTV.
“If it’s just what we did last season, I’ll choose myself.”
