Deputy Admiral (RTD) IBOK-ETE EKWE IBAS has approved the appointments of the administrators for the 23 areas of the local government of the State of the rivers.

A declaration signed by the Secretary of the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika, said that the administrator also approved the reconstitution of some previous councils suspended of agencies, commissions and parastali.

Worika said that all appointments have effect from Monday 7 April 2025.

The appointment of administrators for the 23 LGA has arrived less than 24 hours after a Federal High Court of Port Harcourt ordered the IBA to appear in front of April 14 to provide reasons why an order that tries to hold it from appointing the Council administrators should not be granted.

Judge Adamu Turaki Muhammed issued the order in a case presented by the Pilex Center for Civic Education Initiative, led by Courage NSIRIVUU. Filed under March 28, the Center is praying to the Court to prevent Ibas or its agents from appointing the administrators for LGA rivers.

The Court, however, was postponed until April 14 for an audition on the motion.

The Supreme Court had, on February 28, invalidated the elections of the local government of 5 October in the state of sparrows.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Ibas as administrator of the rivers on March 18, following the declaration of a state of emergency.
