The acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a direct and urgent directive to the Commissioner of Police in charge of Lagos state to initiate a swift and comprehensive investigation into the tragic passing of Nigerian Musician, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.
A press statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday in Abuja, said: “This directive was conveyed during a brief but crucial discussion at the Police Airwing Hangar, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday, September 16, 2023.
“He tasked the CP to quickly and effectively unravel the truth behind the tragedy as there have been understandable concerns and speculations surrounding the circumstances of his untimely demise.”
The spokesperson further stated that “The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) hereby earnestly urges any family members or close associates possessing valuable information about this case to come forward and cooperate with the Lagos State Police Command to ensure that justice is served and the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s demise are thoroughly examined.”
Blueprint reports that there have been controversies over the death of the young artist who died on Tuesday at the age of 27.
Media reports have it that Mohbad, who was buried on Wednesday on one of his property in Lagos, had died after battling an ear infection, there are contradictory reports which claimed his death may not be unconnected with rivalry between him and the management of his former record label, Marlian Music, who had allegedly regularly hounded him through sponsored agents.
The artiste, who left the label in 2022, was said to have been severally assaulted at shows, music video shoots and other places by people reportedly sponsored by the label, a situation suspected to have affected his mental health leading to an attempt to commit suicide.
Mohbad in a video on his Twitrer handle in 2022 had alleged that he was assaulted by the label’s executives after he demanded a change of manager.
