The Imo State Parasports Association will honor the Commissioner for Sport, the Hon. Onyeocha Obinna Evaristus (Onowu), with a prize of excellence as a pillar of special sport and an exceptional sports commissioner.
The Association stated that the prize is in recognition of the contributions of the Commissioner to the development of Parasports in the State and his support for athletes with disabilities.
According to the group, IMO remains one of the main states of Nigerian sports, producing a significant percentage of national athletes in international competitions. They accredited the commissioner’s leadership for strengthening this position.
They also indicated his support for athletes and coaches at the NDDC Games in Uyo and the National Youth Games in Asaba, as well as the recent improvements to the Daniam Stadium, including the installation of Solar Streetlights.
As part of today’s event, the Association should request the formation of a support group for the disabled from Obinna Onowu and will ask for its intervention to guarantee a visit to solidarity from the governor Hope Uzodinma at the Paralympics Association of Nigeria (Pan), chapter of the Imo State.
The group expressed appreciation for the governor for infrastructure and inclusive development policies, while committing continuous cooperation with the commissioner to advance parasport throughout the state.
