INC launches the recording of voters in Bayelsa, URG …

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INC) in the State of Bayelsa announced the beginning of the recording exercise of continuous voters (CVR), with online pre-registry starting from 18 August 2025 and registration on 25 August 2025.

The resident electoral commissioner (REC) Bayelsa, Mal. Isah Shaka Ehimeakhe made him known during a press briefing held at the headquarters of the Commission in Yenagoa.

Ehimeakhe, who assumed the assignment on June 17, 2025, underlined that the registration of the voters is a fundamental right and duty for all Nigerians aged 18 or over 18 years. “The permanent voters’ card (PVC) is essential for the vote and participation in the construction of the nation,” he said.

According to the resident electoral commissioner, the CVR will allow suitable citizens to register, update their details, replace the lost or damaged PVCs or change the voting locations.

He declared that the registration of person will take place in the recording centers of the area of the Local Government of Inc through Bayelsa.

The RIP has warned that the double registration is an offense punishable pursuant to section 114 (b) of the electoral law 2022, with the automatic biometric identification system of the INCC (ABI) designed to detect violations.

“The Automated Biometric identification system of the Inc is designed to detect more recordings and contradictions that try to register more than once.

“The recording of the voters is not only a fundamental right, but also a duty of every eligible citizen of Nigeria; no individual can vote in an election unless they are duly registered to do it. We urge all the Nigerians who have reached the age of 18 and have not yet registered to do it.

“The Commission remains resolved in the protection of the voting rights of each admissible Nigerian; no suitable citizen will be denied the opportunity to register and vote. The Iner will collaborate with security agencies and other partners to ensure a practical, safe and transparent recording exercise.”

He also declared illegal child recording illegal, urging the community leaders to report these attempts.

Ehimeakhe invited the interested parties, including traditional sovereigns, religious leaders and civil society, to support the push for registration. He ensured a safe and transparent process, with Iner who collaborated with the security agencies.

To avoid delays in the issue of PVC, he encouraged early registration and recommended to those who have PVC not collected to check the Instac voters verification portal or visit an Incen office. The Incen is also facing biometric capture problems to guarantee inclusiveness.

“Democracy thrives on active participation. Registering in vote is the first step towards positive change,” said Ehimeakhe.
