INEC will deploy 1.4 million NYSC corps members for 2027 elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revealed that a total of 1,414,768 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will be deployed for the 2027 elections.

INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, stated this on Monday during a courtesy visit to the Commission headquarters in Abuja by the Director General of the NYSC, OO Nafiu.

Amupitan described the NYSC members, as the most committed, educated and patriotic personnel in carrying out election duties, and said that their presence at the polling stations had fostered an irreplaceable sense of neutrality and public trust.

Amupitan reiterated INEC’s dedication to collaborating with the NYSC and security agencies to ensure that safety protocols are strictly implemented to protect every member of the Corps engaged in election duties.

He further said, “Ahead of the upcoming elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, I would like to emphasize the need for full mobilization and readiness of the NYSC for this national event. Our joint efforts are critical to ensuring that the election process remains transparent and credible.”

“For the 2027 Election, we need 707,384 Corps Members for the Presidential and National Assembly elections on January 16 2027. The same number is also needed for the Governor and DPR elections on February 6 2027, which is 1,414,768.”

The INEC Chairman noted that in many states, Corps members represent almost 90 per cent of Registration Area Officers and Commission Chairmen, who not only facilitate voting but also uphold the integrity of ballot papers at 176,846 Polling Stations in some of the most challenging areas of the country.

He particularly commended the performance of the Corps members during the Anambra governorship and FCT Regional Council elections, where their digital skills ensured the smooth operation of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS.

Amupitan also committed to INEC’s readiness to collaborate closely with the NYSC to ensure adequate training and mobilization of all ad hoc staff required for the 2026 off-cycle elections and the upcoming 2027 elections.

He stated, “Our goal is to ensure a well-structured, efficient and peaceful election process, which can only be achieved through collaboration, dedication and shared responsibility. We look forward to your continued cooperation and partnership in making these elections a success in Nigeria.”
