According to a statement issued by his aide, Hector Igbikiowubo, a former Navy Chief of Staff noted that the relevance of the AFCSC tour cannot be exaggerated, especially when national security issues are in front and center in public discourse. He said the Rivers state government was very interested in collaboration that could support sustainable intervention aimed at protecting life and property throughout the state.
“This disturbs our highest belief that those who provide human resources that trigger insecurity in urban and remote areas include, of course, our rural population,” Ibas said. “Therefore, every study that is channeled to harvest the intelligence of the grassroots deserves to start, because internal security without the right feedback mechanism will be an illusion that must be pursued but cannot be achieved.”
While recognizing the urgent need for accurate intelligence and can be followed up in fighting insecurity, he observed that the damage to the feedback loop between the local community and the security structure had become a repeated obstacle. This, he added, contributed to a decrease in economic productivity, reducing income for the government, and a terrible effect on private investment.
The retired navy head requires the participants to be intentional in their involvement with security operators and stakeholders throughout the state, urged them to develop data that can inform the future thought strategy. He stated that only practical findings and grassroots oriented that could make a real impact on Nigerian multifinet security architecture.
Iba stated optimism that the tour results will not only enrich the national security discourse but also offer concrete support to local law enforcement agencies that work to maintain the law and order in the state of Rivers.
Previously, the leader of the delegation and logistics director in AFCSC, Commodore So Abdularaheen, explained that the visit formed a part of the national study tour involving nine separate teams deployed in various states.
He revealed that the focus of research for this year’s training was “utilizing the intelligence of grassroots to improve internal security,” added that the State Rivers’s foot foot is very instrumental to form their final findings.
Commodore Abdulaneen said that this research would peak in detailed reports and recommendations that would be submitted to College and distributed with relevant government institutions for the possibility of implementation.
He also praised the government of the river state because of its warm revenue and expressed the belief that the state unique security landscape would enrich the overall purpose of the tour.
