Following the dissolution of all state leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nigeria, the Kano state chapter of the party on Monday swore in an interim committee to look after the affairs of the party.
However, the party’s local body chairmen and their traditional leadership will remain in place.
The party’s National Vice President, (Northwest) Hajiya Naja’atu Muhammad, announced this at a press conference in Kano.
He said that every action taken by the party in the process regarding the caretaker committee was guided by the party’s Constitution and electoral law.
“Every action taken was guided by our party constitution, electoral law, and our collective responsibility to protect the future of ADC in Kano State.
“Our Constitution exists precisely for times like this. It provides a legal path to restore stability, preserve continuity and ensure that the party’s activities continue uninterrupted. This is exactly what has been done,” Naja’atu said.
The national vice president, reminding the new committee members of what awaits them, said they have a huge responsibility to ensure that the party’s objectives are achieved in the state.
“To every member of the newly inaugurated Caretaker Committee, I say this: Always remember that leadership is a trust, not a privilege. Lead with patience. Lead with moderation. Lead with justice. Listen before deciding. Consult before acting. Unite before organizing.
“The success of your mandate will not be measured by how many decisions you make, but by how many members you are able to gather under one banner,” he said.
Those sworn in as members of the interim committee include Umar Bala as chairman of the committee and Ismail Musa as secretary.
Shedding light on the party’s choice of governorship candidate in Kano, he said the process was purely constitutional and transparent.
