Keyamo confirmed the re -opening of the airport to Ibiam faster than the schedule

The Minister of Flight Development and Aerospace, Festus Keyamo, has confirmed that the repair work at the IBIAM International Airport runway at Enugu is now complete and will be reopened on Monday, April 28, 2025, before May 6, 2025 scheduled.

Keyamo confirmed this development in a post on his official X platform on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

Previously, in a statement on Saturday, the Director of the Federal Nigeria Airport Authority (FAAN) Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Ny. Obiageli Orah, has announced that rehabilitation work on the runway has been completed, and the runway is cleaned for landing and taking off by the engineers who work with the faan.

Confirming development, Keyamo wrote; “His compatriot, we worked very hard to meet the deadline that we gave on the improvement of the runway of the International Airport Runway, Ibiam in Enugu and finished long before the scheduled date.

“Now it will be open to use starting tomorrow (April 28, 2025)”.

On April 19, Faan announced the temporary closure of the airport to enable the maintenance work of the runway important after the alarm raised by the airline operating the route.

Faan, in a statement explains that there is a sudden and significant rupture on the asphalt surface on the critical part of the runway.

It is said that emergency improvement will be carried out on the runway section from April 22 to May 6, 2025.

“In accordance with Nigerian civil aviation regulations, the Federal Nigerian airport authority (FAAN), therefore, has closed the runway during this period.

“As part of the Faan’s commitment to the safety of passengers and modernization of airport facilities, the runway will not be open to landing or taking off during the rehabilitation period.”
