Kings in the Southeast region are pleading for IPOB leader Kanu to be released

The South-East Traditional Rulers Council has told the Federal Government that the release of jailed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu would ease tensions in the region.

The Chairman of the Council, Igwe Samuel Asadu, who made the appeal while interacting with journalists in Abuja on Sunday, said Kanu’s release would not only de-escalate tension but would also reduce security challenges in the Southeast.

Igwe Asadu stated that the council supports governors, lawmakers, religious and traditional leaders and stakeholders in the South-East who have called for the release of the IPOB leader.

“He’s our son. He’s been working there for a long time, despite the ups and downs in the justice world,” he said.

“Of course we support the call of the Governors’ Forum and other stakeholders for his release, so that tensions can ease.
“We pray that the government will do its due diligence to make sure that the public is assured that the release will not go beyond what is expected. There has to be some kind of action, some kind of agreement that has to be made.”

The Royal Father stressed that Kanu’s eventual release would, to a large extent, bring relative calm and bring joy to the people of the region.

“If the President investigates it and gives him a pardon, we will be happy. It affects our region, because of his absence. Some people are big fans of his.

“So, who wants their child to be locked up for a long time, of course we pray every day, all traditional leaders pray that Nnamdi Kanu will be released.
“We feel his pain and the pain of his family. It would be a blessing if the President would do that. We come back to say thank you very much,” Igwe Asadu added.
