The academic council of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has approved the withdrawal of 229 students for poor academic performance.
It also approved the results of the first semester exams for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The approval was given during the academic council meeting of the institute, held on May 12, 2026, under the chairmanship of the rector, Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime.
The meeting was attended by principal officers, deans, heads of departments and other members of the academic council, who deliberated extensively on academic issues affecting the polytechnic.
A statement signed by the Interim Coordinator, Public Relations and Protocols of the Polytechnic, John Amos Onimisi, said the approval of the results follows a thorough verification exercise conducted by the Central Results Verification Committee of the Academic Council.
“The committee carefully reviewed proposals from various schools and departments to ensure accuracy, fairness and compliance with the academic regulations of the polytechnic,” he said.
The statement adds that the breakdown released by the institute shows that the affected students were from National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND) and various departments including Accounting, Business Administration, Information Technology, Public Administration, Science Technology Laboratory, Mass Communication, Library and Information Science, Office Technology and Management, among others.
The council noted that the withdrawals were in line with the academic regulations of the polytechnic and aimed at maintaining academic excellence and preserving the quality of certificates awarded by the institution.
Speaking after the meeting, the rector commended the members of the Academic Council’s Central Results Verification Committee for their diligence, professionalism and commitment during the verification exercise.
