Wife of the governor of Kwara, Pro. Olufolake Abdulrazaq, he commissioned the wives of the presidents of the local government in the state to raise awareness of the need for vaccination against measles and rubella and other health conditions pursuant to the basic.
Mrs. Abdulrazaq gave the position of an awareness program held in Ilorin on Wednesday for the wives of the Prime Minister’s Presidents on measles and rubella vaccines.
The Governor’s wife, who also acts as president of the Nigerian governor forum of the spouses, said that the initiative aimed to raise awareness of the public on the need to present children and departments between nine months and 15 years for vaccination
Freedomonline reports that national vaccination against measles and rubella will begin in October to eliminate diseases in society.
He also encouraged the spouses of the presidents of the local government to propagate supporters of other health problems, including a healthy diet and the immunization of routines, among others.
“While Rosalia infections during pregnancy continue to represent a serious but preventable threat to the health of newborns throughout Nigeria, however it is appropriate that practicable measures are taken to eliminate diseases.
“Therefore, the need for commitments like this to equip you as wives of the presidents of the local government with the necessary information on the vaccine against the morbillo-Rubella to disseminate among the people on the base, as well as to dissipate unfounded statements before the launch provided for the fourth quarter of the year 2025,” said Abdulrazaq.
In his address, the executive secretary, the primary health care agency of the state of Kwara, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, said that the measles remains one of the most contagious and fatal viral diseases that affect young children globally, despite the availability of a safe and highly effective vaccine.
Elelu said that between the year 2000 and 2023, only measles vaccination avoided over 60 million deaths globally, but the disease has remained endemic in many developing countries, in particular in parts of Africa and Asia, where weak health systems persist and limited access to quality immunization services.
He said that Rosalia, commonly indicated as German measles, although often mild in children, represents a serious risk for pregnant women, especially in the first quarter, leading to devastating consequences such as spontaneous abortion, fetal death or birth of children with congenital deformity of Rubella.
He invited the residents of Kwara, through the respective areas of the local government, to collectively defend the cause to protect each child from the devastating effects of measles and rubella.
Prof. Elelu said that Kwara has a legacy of introduction of successful vaccines and health interventions, largely due to the visionary leadership of the governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, whose support for the health sector continues to produce positive results.
“As an agency, the State Primary Health Development Agency of Kwara (Kwwphcda) in collaboration with our development allies, remains still in our commitment for the success of this vaccine and, in fact, all the health interventions aimed at reducing morbidity and mortality that can be prevented in our dear state”, said Elelu.
The Emir of Shongga, Dr. Haliru Yahaya, who represented traditional sovereigns in the state, said that it was important to pass the message to the base.
Yahaya assured that the traditional institution would lead to defense, not only on measles vaccines and on rosolia, but other immunizations to improve the health of the mother and child.
The president of the wives of the presidents of the local government in Kwara, Hajia Zainab Abubakar, undertook to mobilize promised to illuminate that the targeted group is vaccinated.
“We ask for support to our men and the main parts concerned to control the negative effects of measles and rubella.
