Lagos unveils traffic plan for two-day commissioning of Tinubu…

The Lagos State Government has deployed 500 additional members of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on major roads and critical corridors ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s two-day visit to the state, during which he is expected to commission several landmark projects executed by the Sanwo-Olu administration.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso revealed this in a press conference on Monday, saying the deployment was part of coordinated measures to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow, adequate security and minimal disruption to residents during the inauguration ceremonies scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

“We are working closely with federal and state agencies to ensure that all arrangements for the President’s visit are smooth, safe and befitting of the occasion,” Omotoso said, urging residents to cooperate with authorities and abide by traffic advisories and safety guidelines that will be issued ahead of the visit.

LASTMA Director General, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the 500 officers will be positioned along strategic routes and project corridors to ensure effective traffic control, adding that alternative traffic arrangements will be communicated to the public in due time. He appealed to motorists to cooperate with officers and respect any temporary diversions introduced during the visit.

Tinubu is tasked with inaugurating the Ojota/Opebi link bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information Service building, the Alausa multi-agency complex – named after the president – the Tolu school complex in Ajegunle and a mid-level agricultural produce hub in Abijo, Ibeju-Lekki.

Omotoso described the projects as a reflection of the administration’s strategic investments in transportation, infrastructure, education and public sector development, saying they were designed to facilitate mobility, stimulate economic activity and improve social well-being.

In the Tolu School Complex, he said the facility in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area comprises 36 public schools – 31 secondary and five primary – spread over about 11.73 hectares and serving about 20,000 pupils. The complex, which has fallen into decades of disrepair, now includes 13 blocks of additional classrooms and 24 newly constructed school buildings, reducing the student-to-classroom ratio from 70:1 to 50:1. It also includes an ICT hub, a central laboratory, sports facilities, a health centre, solar panels and inclusive facilities for people with disabilities.

The Alausa multi-agency complex, designed to consolidate the delivery of government services within the Ikeja administrative hub, spans 2.01 hectares and consists of four blocks, a meeting and conference penthouse and parking for 300 vehicles.

The Ojota/Opebi Link Bridge spans 5.04 kilometers and was designed to address the chronic traffic congestion around Ojota, Maryland, Mende, Opebi and Allen in the Ikeja metropolitan area. Originally conceived more than two decades ago during Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos governor, the project was revived and discontinued by Sanwo-Olu in January 2022.

Omotoso said the President’s visit highlighted the strong partnership between the Federal Government and Lagos State, as well as the importance of continuity in governance.
