Following the success of Emmanuel Fernandez and three other players – Chibuike Nwaiwu, Yira Sor and Philip Otele – who made their debuts in the recently concluded four-team tournament in Turkey, Super Eagles coach Chelle has his sights set on five new players.
Chelle has shown over time that he is not afraid to give new players a place in his team, limiting up to ten players in competitive or high-profile friendly matches, since his appointment as coach just over a year ago.
Ahead of the Unity Cup tournament in England in May, where they will face Zimbabwe, India and Jamaica in a four-team tournament, some players will also receive their baptism.
The Super Eagles will also face Poland and Portugal respectively in June, another match in which the Malian will also evaluate new players in his second phase of team building.
“Chelle are closely monitoring five players at the moment for the Unity Cup in May and also the friendly matches in June. It is an ongoing process and the window is perfect to try out new players,” said a source close to the coach.
We brought together players like Kareem Tunde from Levante, Femi Azeez from Millwall, Marcus Abraham from Estrela, Anthony Dennis from Göztepe and Arthur Okonkwo from Wrexham.
