Human rights lawyer and member of the Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry into the outcome of the #EndSARS protests, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa has urged the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to investigate the alleged disconnection of customers by telecom operators.
According to a statement on Sunday, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) warned that telecommunications companies should not try to sabotage the upcoming protests against economic hardship in Nigeria by restricting internet access among disgruntled citizens.
“Over the past few days, several telecommunications companies have disconnected their customers for vague and unacceptable reasons. Some allege non-registration or NIN linking while some others have given no reason at all,” Adegboruwa said.
“This action is a follow-up to the people’s struggle against hunger, poverty, suffering and the stifling economic policies of the Tinubu government.
“From all indications, it appears the hidden target of the telecom companies is to limit the reach of their customers in order to restrict access and thereby thwart the protests.”

The senior lawyer said the contract between a telecommunications company and its customers remains sacred and cannot be violated.
“Sufficient information and opportunity must be provided to customers to correct any alleged violation or error.
“Too many phone users use their phone numbers for business and other legitimate activities, not to talk to people who may be experiencing medical and health emergencies.
“The NCC is urged to investigate this matter and provide assistance to customers.”
