Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna Disco) has announced an increase in electricity tariffs for Band A customers, effective July 1, 2024.
The move comes amid growing concerns about high electricity costs in Nigeria.
Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) Plc on Wednesday also announced a review of electricity tariffs for Band A customers.
Acting Managing Director of IBEDC, Francis Agoha, stated that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission approved the tariff increase from N206.80/kWh to N209.50/kWh for users in the category.

In this regard, Kaduna Disco in a statement issued by its Head of Corporate Communications, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, said the tariff for Band A feeders has increased from N206.80 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to N209.50 per kWh. This is an increase of 1.3%.
Who are Band A Customers?
Band A customers are typically those categorized under the Service Based Tariff regime and receive a guarantee of electricity supply for a minimum of 20 to 24 hours every day. This category often includes high-consumer residential, commercial and industrial consumers.
Justification for Increase
In a statement titled, ‘Review of Tariff Increase for Band A Feeders’, Abdullahi revealed that the new tariffs came into effect on July 1.
“Dear Customers, Kaduna Electric Management would like to inform the public of the increase in Band A feeder tariff from N206.80/kWh to N209.5/kWh.
“This review will be effective from 1 July 2024 and will affect both prepaid and postpaid customers.
“Kaduna Electric assures customers on its Band A feeders of 20-24 hours of supply availability as stipulated in the Service Based Tariff regime,” the statement read.
He emphasized, “The public is asked to note that the rates for Bands B, C, D, and E remain unchanged.”
Impact on Consumers
The tariff increase will result in higher electricity bills for Group A customers. The impact will depend on each individual’s consumption pattern. While a 1.3% increase may seem small, it is important to consider that the increase is on top of existing electricity costs, which many Nigerians already find burdensome.
