The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, said on Tuesday that his party would not bow to intimidation amid increasing political pressure.
Mark stated this during the party’s 2026 national convention held in Abuja.
The ADC’s national convention attracted at least 3,000 delegates, all gathered to elect new members of the National Working Committee to lead the party for the next four years.
“We have emphasized that in the increasingly narrowing democratic space, ADC will not give up, will not be afraid, and we will not back down,” said Mark.
According to him, strong political movements are not built in comfortable conditions, but in difficult times when citizens demand change, leadership, integrity and a firm commitment to national progress.

“We will not give up because what is at stake is not just the opposition, but the survival of democracy in Nigeria,” he added.
The former Senate President said that efforts to weaken the party actually strengthened the party’s internal unity, expanded the coalition, and strengthened the importance of a strong opposition in maintaining democracy.
He stressed that the new generation of Nigerians is demanding accountability, transparency and leadership that supports their ambitions, as well as positioning the ADC as a credible alternative political platform.
Mark noted that the party’s goal is more than just political power but also the obligation to show that democracy can improve lives and provide meaningful development.
He called on opposition leaders across parties to unite in saving the country and described the current challenges as a patriotic duty beyond partisan political interests.
