The former West Kogi Senator, Dino Melaye, accused the administration of the Tinubu Bola President of condemning loans and wasteful expenses, accused that such actions had deepened hunger and difficulties throughout the country.
Speaking of the Arise Television Prime Time Program on Monday, Melaye criticized the government’s dependence on external loans, questioning why new loans were pursued despite claims to increase revenue.
“There is a big hunger in the country. Why did the president borrow $ 1.7 billion from the World Bank? Why did the Senate approve $ 21 billion so far with more delayed requests?” He asked.
Describing the government as “one of the most careless in Nigerian history,” Melaye said Tinubu’s policy was contrary to the promises of his campaign. He quoted the purchase of a cruise ship and a new presidential aircraft as an example of what he called unnecessary expenditure at the time of widespread economic difficulties.

“That cruise ships never touch Nigeria’s territorial waters between Monaco and Paris. For what we need a cruise ship during widespread savings and hunger?” He asked.
Former MPs further accused that the President’s jet, which was said to have been charged billions of countries, was obtained without the approval of the National Assembly. According to him, the claim that the aircraft was a misleading gift because there was no apropriation made for its purchase.
Melaye also reviled government loan notes, with the reason that it had never happened before. “He has borrowed unlike other presidents in the history of the country. If you make more money, then why are you borrowing? We will not be surprised if the president starts to borrow from Opay and Moniepoint immediately,” he said.
Last month, the Senate approved Tinubu’s request to get more than $ 21 billion loans from external sources for fiscal years 2025-2026.
