The Defence Headquarters has dismissed reports of the alleged kidnapping of 150 people by terrorists in Sokoto State.
In a statement released on Monday by the Director of Defense Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, the military clarified that the trending video of the killings and burials was actually filmed in the neighboring African country.
The military urged citizens to be wary of terrorist propaganda efforts, which include the spread of misinformation and fake news.

Buba said: βOn August 29, troops of OP HADARIN DAJI deployed at FOB Zurmi in Zurmi LGA, Zamfara State, commenced combat patrol to flush out terrorists in Kwashabawa Village. The troops engaged the terrorists in combat on their way to the location.
βDuring the battle, while trying to surround the terrorists, the Quantity 2 MRAP troops became trapped due to the swampy terrain caused by rain. While the troops tried to free the MRAP, the terrorists gathered, knowing the challenges faced by troops with MRAPs.
βNext, troops disembarked and demobilized the MRAP when attempts to reload it proved futile. The troopsβ pathetic demobilization of the MRAP was intended to prevent it from being useful to terrorists after it was abandoned. This situation further illustrates the influence of weather in changing ground operating conditions.β
