Chief of Defense Staff General Christopher Musa said on Monday that the Nigerian military would not tolerate any attempt to instigate a change of government.
Musa said this while speaking to State House reporters after a National Security Council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Defense Chief issued a stern warning to those advocating a coup, stressing that the military is committed to upholding democracy and will not take any action aimed at changing the regime.

He said, “Also, on the issue of coup, Nigeria is a sovereign country, Nigeria is a democracy, all the security agencies are here to defend democracy and ensure that democracy continues to thrive. We will not accept anybody pushing or taking any action, seemingly or for whatever reason, to want to push for a change of government. Democracy is what we stand for. Democracy is what we will continue to defend.”
Musa also responded to the recent incident involving protesters waving Russian flags, saying, “We have said very clearly that the military will intervene if it gets out of control, and you can see that those who are supervising the elements that are encouraging people to bring Russian flags in Nigeria, Nigerian sovereignty, that has crossed the line and we will not accept it. And those who have done that will be punished, and they want to be prosecuted.”
