The Ogun State chapter of the Muslim Rights Concern has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for the ongoing road infrastructure projects, particularly the rehabilitation of the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, describing it as a significant boost to safe transportation and sustainable development.
The group, however, urged the governor to urgently extend similar interventions to other deteriorating roads within Abeokuta and its environs to avoid further loss of life and economic decline.
MURIC gave the commendation after an inspection visit to the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway project site on Tuesday, noting that the scope of work and quality of materials employed reflected the administration’s commitment to infrastructure renovation.
In a statement signed by the State President, Tajudeen Jimoh Alao, and made available by the Secretary of State, Olaleye Rasheed Damilare, the group said recognizing impactful governance is necessary to encourage leaders to do more.
The statement reads in part: “When leaders demonstrate commitment to the well-being of people through tangible projects, it is moral and necessary to praise them. Such recognition strengthens their determination to do more.”
The organization stressed that the provision of safe and reliable road networks remains a key responsibility of government, linking it directly to the protection of lives and property.
While applauding the progress recorded on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, MURIC expressed concern over the deplorable state of several roads in the city centre, including the Adatan-Moore Junction Road and the Oke Ibukun-Aladesanmi axis serving Asero and Obantoko communities.
According to the group, the Adatan-Moore Junction corridor has remained one-way for more than six years, posing serious risks to motorists and pedestrians.
“This road has become a silent danger zone, sending many to their premature deaths. We humbly urge His Excellency to send engineers to this site as a matter of urgency,” the statement added.
MURIC also highlighted the economic implications of neglected infrastructure, noting that many businesses along the affected corridors have closed their doors or suffered serious losses due to poor accessibility.
The group acknowledged recent interventions by the state government, including the rehabilitation of the Lantoro-Yidi road, which it said has improved traffic flow along major roads such as Abiola Way, Ijaye and Ake.
However, he stressed that the completion of adjacent roads such as the Adatan-Moore Interchange was crucial in consolidating the gains recorded.
MURIC added that while Ijebu and Iperu communities have continued to benefit from the current administration’s landmark projects, Abeokuta residents equally expect sustained infrastructure development.
The organization reaffirmed its confidence in the governor’s leadership, urging continued commitment to road construction and rehabilitation in all parts of the state.
“Governor Dapo Abiodun deserves commendation for the extraordinary work currently underway. We remain confident that his listening leadership will address other urgent road challenges in due course,” the statement concludes.
