Mutfwang, head of security maps out new strategy as Plateau battles new attacks

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has convened an emergency meeting of the State Security Council to review recent security challenges and strengthen efforts aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.

The meeting held on Wednesday at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, brought together the Deputy Governor, heads of security and law enforcement agencies, Gbong Gwom Jos, Da. Jacob Gyang Buba, and other senior government officials.

The meeting focused on developing stronger measures to ensure sustainable peace, improve security across communities and create a conducive environment for economic growth and investment.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Gyang Bere, said that the discussions “focused broadly on emerging security threats, recent incidents recorded in several communities, intelligence gathering and sharing, preventive operations, inter-agency coordination, and strategies to save lives, property and economic activities across Plateau State.”

Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, said the meeting reflected Governor Mutfwang’s continued commitment to monitor developments and respond to security threats across the state.

He explained that the governor regularly convenes security chiefs to assess the situation and identify areas that require greater intervention.

“His Excellency Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang is the Chief State Security Officer, and every now and then we review the security situation. We assess the security situation to take steps to improve what we already have,” Faniyan said.

The police commissioner specifically addressed the recent security incident in Mangu, describing it as unfortunate and said that this latest meeting was partly aimed at ensuring that similar attacks could be prevented in the future.

“Mangu’s case is very unfortunate. We have prepared and mobilized, but somehow incidents like this still happen. That’s why Your Majesty is holding this meeting so that something similar doesn’t happen again,” said CP Faniyan.

Faniyan revealed that security agencies have made arrests in connection with several major attacks recorded in Plateau State in the past month, while efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspects.

According to him, the investigation was carried out jointly with other security agencies and relevant authorities outside the state, and technology was also deployed to analyze intelligence and trace those responsible.

“We arrested several people; the investigation is ongoing. We are not investigating in isolation. We are working with all the other agencies up to the national level. We are still pursuing several suspects, and we are doing a lot of technology analysis.”

The commissioner assured citizens that security agencies have received clear direction from Governor Mutfwang and will intensify collaboration to prevent further attacks, address criminal activities, and respond quickly to emerging threats.

The Security Council meeting is part of the Mutfwang administration’s broader efforts to consolidate peace and stability across Plateau State, and the government stated that long-term security is critical to the growth of investment, tourism, agriculture, trade and other sectors.

The government reiterates its determination to build a peaceful, safe and prosperous Plateau State where residents and investors can live, work and carry out their activities with confidence.
