The commission for economic and financial crimes invited the former militant leader of the Niger Delta, the head government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for alleged abuse of the Naira.
Although the Commission has yet to officially confirm the invitation, a source within the anti-innesto agency revealed that the letter was delivered at the beginning of the week.
The source, however, clarified that the invitation is part of an investigative routine process and not of a stopping mandate.
On Monday the EFCC reacted to a viral video showing that Tompolo was generously sprayed with bundles of N1,000 notes during what seemed to be his celebration of the 54th birthday in April. The commission had said: “Nobody is above the law. Tompolo will have questions to answer!”
The central bank of Nigeria has constantly stressed that Naira’s spraying or defacement is a criminal crime punishable pursuant to the Nigerian law. In recent months, the EFCC has intensified its re -immersion on these violations, undertaking to enforce the financial discipline regardless of the status or background.
Several high-profile characters, including CrossDresser Bobrisky, Money Promoter Music E-Money, actress Iyabo Ojo and comic AY, have recently been questioned for similar acts of naira mutilation.
