Nass to start the bill to swear in the president elected in the legislative chamber
Abuja (basic reporter) as part of his efforts to strengthen the country’s democracy, the National Assembly revealed his plan to issue a law to ensure that the president elected is from now on
Parliament also revealed that he would report another legislative initiative that he would have imposed to the president to deliver the speech on the state of the nation in the Sacred Chamber of the National Assembly on 12 June every year.
The Senate leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele asked this disclosure as he answered questions on the anniversary of June 12 during an interactive session with journalists on Tuesday in Abuja.
The National Assembly had invited President Bola Tinubu to face a joint session of the Senate and the Chamber of Representatives Thursday to mark the day of National Democracy of 2025 at the National Assembly complex, Abuja.
The day of democracy is observed in Nigeria every 12 June in honor of the deceased Capo Mko Abiola, the winner of the presidential elections of 2023 judged as the freer, right and credible elections in the political history of Nigeria
By answering the question Tuesday, Bamidele said: “It is our desire to institutionalize the discussion on the state of the nation. We will bring a bill to deal with it to ensure that it is institutionalized. People should expect.
“President Tinubu is working with the National Assembly in this sense. We are starting a bill very soon to institutionalize the speech on the State of the Nation. On June 12 it will be a better time for the president to come and turn to the nation through the national assembly.
“It does not exist better than 12 June for the president to turn to the nation due to its historical meaning. It is a joint session of the National Assembly. The Nigerians should anxiously look at this legislative initiative.
“We also hope to change our political environment to the extent that the oath of the next president and commander in chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, by the grace of God, will be sworn in the portico of the National Assembly of Nigeria”, said the leader of the Senate with certainty.
