National Constitutional Summit moved for a day to honor Buhari, Awujale of Ijebuland – Thage

The Opening Ceremony of the Highly early National Summit on the Future of Nigeria’s Constitutional Democracy—Conven by the Patriots in partnership with the Nigerian Political Summit Group (NPSG) —Has Been Recheduled by One Day in Honour of Two Eminent National Figures, former president Muhammadu Buhari and the Awujale of ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Who Both Passe Away on Sunday 13 July 2025.

“In the meantime, the arrival of the delegates of the summit and the parties concerned for the registration and accreditation will continue until Tuesday 15 July, as previously expected, while the opening ceremony will now hold on Wednesday 16 July, in recognition of national mourning and for profound respect for the two deceased statists”, reads the note.

The top intervention of a reference-reference will be former presidents, the elderly statists, former governors who serve, the best civic leaders, constitutional experts, captains of industry, members of civil society and other parties interested in an urgent offer to lay the foundations for a truly democratic, inclusive and popular foundation for Nigeria.

At the center of the three -day summit is the approval and formal presentation of a legislative law project for a new Constitution of Nigeria, created through a large -range national consultative process. This draft will be presented both to the presidency and to the National Assembly as part of the efforts to replace the Constitution of 1999, criticized for a long time for its excessively centralized and unitary structure and the lack of popular legitimacy.

With the theme “to update a constitutional democracy that works for everyone in Nigeria”, the summit tries to consolidate and raise the reform efforts aimed at building a more federal, responsible and ready for the future in line with the different realities of Nigeria.

The organizing committee is copresiended by Otunba Gbenga Daniel and RT. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, while the summit resolutions committee is led by Prof. Mike Ozekhome, San.

The calls – compensates a coalition of statists, professionals, political reformers and civic supporters – are united in their request for a new constitutional order capable of effectively facing the structural and development challenges that Nigeria must face, including insecurity, youth unemployment, bad governance and economic dislocation.

Asking the Nigerians to gather behind this transformative initiative, the secretariat of the summit reiterated that the summit is not a simple ceremonial event, but a crucial step towards national renewal. “We invite all the Nigerians – sectors, generations and regions, to participate and support this collective effort to build a right, fair and prosperous future through a truly democratic constitution”, said the organizers.
