NCF: NSC congratulates the re -election of Akpata as president

Abuja (Reporter Core) The leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC) congratulated Uyi Akpata for its re -election for a second term in office as President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF).

Remember that the elections took place on Saturday 20 September 2025 at the Media Center, Mosupo Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Mallam Shehu Dikko, president of the National Sports Commission, praised Akpata’s leadership during his first term and expressed confidence in his ability to further advance the sport of the cricket in Nigeria.

A declaration by Patricia nnandi for the director of the press, said NSC, promised the support of the Commission to the NCF and other federations, underlining the importance of collaboration in achieving greater success for the Nigerian cricket.

He also extended his congratulations to the newly elected members of the Council, exhorting them to work together to rely on the progress already accomplished.

The president’s declaration highlighted the recent results of the NCF and expressed optimism for the sport of the future of the cricket in Nigeria.

“This victory not only reflects the growth of this sport, but also means the strength and competitiveness of the country in the international cricket arena”. He added.

The general manager of the NSC, the honorable Bukola Olopade also congratulated the newly elected president and other members of the Board of Directors for their success.

He said: “We are much happier to join the celebration that reports a new dawn for the sport of the cricket in Nigeria.”

DG Bukola highlighted the meaning of the elections and its impact on the development of the cricket in the country. He praised the participants for their hard work, dedication and determination that paved the way for such a significant victory.

He declared that the president, together with the support of the team of his members of the Council, has a difficult task in front of them. However, he underlined that “with the support and guidance of the National Sports Commission and the Federal Government, we are confident that they will lead us to greater heights and success.

“I must say that their vision and plans for the future of the cricket in the country are quite promising, and it is undoubtedly an exciting moment for all cricket fans.”

NSC’s leadership has thrilled that as a nation, we can’t wait to attend the growth of the cricket and we are confident that under the guidance of the new advice, we will reach new milestones and make our country proud on the global scene.

In the elections, Uyi Akpata raced without opposition and was confirmed to the annual General Assembly of the Federation and the Council elections. Thirty -seven (37) delegates voted in the elections that also saw 12 other members of the Board of Directors elected to serve alongside Akpata for the next four years. Wale Obalola was elected vice -president. The member of the Back Council Tayo ATOLOYE will continue to represent the South-West, while Femi John, team manager of the young Gialla Greens woman, was elected South-South representative.

Other zonal representatives include Chika Okoro (South-East), Ladan Usman (North-West), give Aimola (Center-North) and Zainab Adamu (North-East).

Elections were also conducted for the technical representatives and athletes with Ephem Endurance who maintain his position as representative of athletes for a third term and Olumide Akintokun was elected as a new technical representative.

Opem won with a significant margin, defeating Chimeizie onwuzurike 30 votes at 6. He expressed gratitude for the renewed trust and praised the leadership of the president of the NCF Uyi Akpata, highlighting the growth of the Nigerian cricket under his mandate, including participation in two world cups.

He underlined his past successes, such as the guarantee of players’ contracts and the expansion of international opportunities, and outlined future objectives, including an HUB system at national level for the development of coaching.

Akintokun got a decisive victory with 37 votes. He expressed excitement and underlined the need for an innovative change in the administration of the cricket that goes beyond traditional methods.

He intends to exploit his business experience and his creativity to improve sport.

Both representatives should carry out key roles in modeling the future of the Nigerian cricket, facing the well -being of players, coaching structures, basic development and international exhibition. With the U-19 teams already reach international recognition, the attention of the new advice will be to keep this momentum and develop paths for future crickets.
