The famous Kenyan writer and poet, Ngũgĩ Wa Thiong’o, died. He was 87 years old.
The world -renowned fame family announced his disappearance on Wednesday.
An imposing figure in African literature and a supporter for all life for the language, liberation and justice, Ngũgĩ has lived a full life and fought a good struggle.
In agreement with his latest desires, the family encouraged the public to celebrate his life, his work and the ideals he supported passionately. “Rîa Ratha na rîa thŭa. Tŭrî aira!” – Let it be mourning and joy.

The literary inheritance of Ngũgĩ Wa Thiong’o covers decades and continents, from its first novels such as the river between and a grain of wheat, to its subsequent theoretical works such as decolonating the mind. His commitment to write in African languages and face the colonial legacy has left an indelible mark on global literature and postcolonial thought. He remained firm in his belief that culture and language are at the center of true freedom.
The family said that the details of his celebration of life would be announced soon by his son and spokesman for the family, NDUCUCU WA NGUGI.
