The agreement was facilitated and signed in Beijing at the Africa-China Cooperation Summit by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), an agency under the Ministry of Energy.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu and Managing Director of REA, Mr. Abba Aliyu, represented Nigeria at the ceremony.

The minister said: “This MoU will go a long way in achieving Nigeria’s vision for the renewable energy subsector in the electricity sector value chain.
“I know Nigeria and China have many similarities, one of which is the high population of both countries.
“And countries with large populations, have so many pressures. The first pressure is energy access and the second is job creation.
“So when you take steps to achieve both, it’s something that’s exciting.
“I am very happy that this happened during President Bola Tinubu’s tenure, because it is in line with the achievement of the New Hope Agenda of this country’s government.”
He stressed that President Tinubu had prioritized the power sector as a driver of all other important sectors of the economy and provided all support to ensure that he fulfilled his campaign promises.
He noted that energy access and expansion is a top priority for the government as nothing can be achieved without a strong, stable, functional and reliable electricity sector.
