There are intense expectations and excitements while President Bola Tinubu visits the tropical island of Santa Lucia today.
President Tinubu is on the official visit of two days on the island, which acts as a headquarters of the organization of the Eastern Caribbean states (Oecs).
The aim of the visit is to deepen Nigeria’s commitment with the Caribbean nations and strengthen South-South cooperation.
Apparently, the president’s visit was in the news for weeks on the island through several media channels, TV, radio, press and even in schools.
The visit is on the lips of many citizens, from Hewanorra airport to the city, is “the Nigerian president is visiting us”.
I embarked on a tour of a part of the island to hear people’s wrist. There is a real excitement regarding the president’s visit.
A citizen of the Laffyie community around Rodney Bay said to me: “Nigeria-Craibica cooperation has been waiting for some time”.
“It’s nice to have our older brother at home.”
We continued to discuss Bob Marley and Marcus Garvey Viz-A-Viz the call for Africans from all over the world to join.
Another citizen told me that the visit is the most significant from any African leader.
Saint Lucia is an important gateway for the Caribbean while Nigeria deepens cooperation with the region.
The 15 Caribbean states and Caricom members have a cumulatively $ 130 billion GDP.
Nigeria has a strong cultural influence on the country. Nollywood and Afrobeats are traditional entertainment for the island. It is like taking a walk on any road in Nigeria, songs of Star of Nigerian music that take on from happy speakers.
I believe that Providence has put Nigeria on the rostrum to provide leadership not only in Africa but in every corner of the world in which there are Africans.
It is our destiny.
Africans come together.
