Nigeria, Kuwait strengthens the partnership for a brighter future

Abuja (basic reporter) The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Monday 4 August 2025, received the General Manager of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (Kfaed), Dr. Waleed Al-Bahar, in Abuja, for a high-level bilateral meeting focused on cooperation for the detailed development between the Nigero and Kuwait.

Ambassador Tuggar welcomed the delegation and underlined the historical and cordial relations between the two countries, which have flourished since the 1960s. He praised Kfaed for his instrumental role in making economic and social development advance in the south of the South, including Nigeria.

The discussions during the meeting focused on the expansion of cooperation in priority sectors in line with the renewed agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The minister highlighted the development priorities of Nigeria, including the renewal of infrastructures, the development of human capital, the reduction of poverty, the empowerment of young people and economic diversification.

Particular emphasis has been placed on education, with both sides that are reflected on the success of the children’s initiative outside school in the state of Kaduna, an impact project supported by Kfaed in collaboration with UNICEF. Amb. Tuggar underlined the urgency to resize similar interventions at national level to fill the educational gap of Nigeria.

On food safety, the minister proposed greater collaboration in agricultural modernization, including irrigation, agro-elaboration and the transfer of technology, in which Kuwait’s importing dependence offers shared incentive for innovation and cooperation.

Ambassador Tuggar has also proposed new infrastructure projects in transport, power and digital connectivity and requested a continuous dealer funding and technical assistance from the Kuwait Fund.

The minister reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to host the inaugural session of the Nigeria-Kuwait joint commission for cooperation by the end of the year to institutionalize dialogue and quickly the mutually advantageous projects.

The meeting ended on a note of optimism, with both sides that undertake to translate the goodwill into tangible results that will strengthen the strategic partnership and offer real benefits to the people of Nigeria and Kuwait.
