Nigeria urges us to reconsider the new visa policy – Thage

By Victor Osula, Abuja

Nigeria expressed concern following the recent revision of the United States of its visa reciprocity program.

According to the new rules, the validity of non -immigrant visas for Nigerian citizens has been reduced to just three months, with a single item allowed.

In a declaration, the spokesman for foreign affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said that development makes cordial relations of the longtime and the strong popular ties between the two countries.

“The decision seems misaligned with the principles of reciprocity, equity and mutual respect that should guide the bilateral commitments between friendly nations,” said Ebienfa.

Restrictions influence various categories of visas, including B1/B2, F and J, who have an impact on travelers, students, professionals, families and Nigerian individuals involved in cultural and educational exchanges.

Nigeria urged the United States government to reconsider the decision, citing the spirit of the partnership, cooperation and shared global responsibilities.

While diplomatic efforts are underway to solve the problem, Ebienfa has said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to pursuing a fair and mutually advantageous solution.
