Nigerian defense spokesman claims his troops killed 106 suspected terrorists in 7 days

The Defense Headquarters (DHQ) claimed on Thursday that troops deployed to various parts of the country had killed 106 suspected terrorists last week.

Director of Defense Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, disclosed this in Abuja while providing an update on military operations across the country.

He said troops arrested 164 others and rescued 103 hostages during the period.

Buba said troops found 125 different types of firearms and 1,522 rounds of ammunition consisting of 41 AK47 rifles, one PKT rifle, 24 locally assembled rifles, 28 Dane rifles and one pump-action shotgun.

Apart from that, 755 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, 623 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition, 102 rounds of 7.62 x 54 mm ammunition, 63 live rounds and 247 empty cartridges of 7.62 mm ammunition were also confiscated.

The spokesman said: “Other items seized were 22 AK47 magazines, one Baofeng radio, 22 vehicles, 31 motorcycles, two bicycles, 10 mobile phones and the sum of N2.9 among other items.

“In the North East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai recorded success in surrendering Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists and their families within a week.

“A total of 1,760 Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters and family members comprising 117 adult males, 345 adult females and 628 children surrendered within a week.

“The troops managed to neutralize 41 terrorists, arrest 27 suspects, and rescue 16 kidnapped hostages. They also managed to recover a number of weapons and ammunition during the operation.

“In North-Central, Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke troops killed 12 insurgents, captured 39 violent extremists, and rescued 39 kidnapped hostages in a week.

“They also confiscated a number of weapons and ammunition consisting of 21 AK47 rifles, 14 homemade pistols, 15 Dane rifles, 285 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, and 200 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition.

In the Northwest region, Operation Hadarin Daji troops managed to neutralize 22 terrorists, capture 23 terrorists, rescue 32 kidnapped hostages, and seize a number of weapons.
