Nigerian defense spokesman claims his troops killed 147 suspected terrorists in seven days

The Defense Headquarters claimed on Thursday that troops deployed to various operational areas in the country had killed 147 suspected terrorists last week.

Director of Defense Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the operations of the armed forces on Thursday in Abuja.

He said troops arrested 381 suspects and rescued 113 hostages across the country during the period.

Buba said his troops found 74 types of weapons and 3,498 rounds of ammunition, consisting of one dushka, one RPG bomb, one RPG filler, 42 AK47 rifles, 10 homemade rifles and 13 Dane rifles.

He said: “Also found were one FN rifle, one revolver, one domestically made pistol, 27 magazines, one imitation AK47 rifle, one AK47 top cover, and one Baofeng radio.

“The others are 288 rounds of RG55 ammunition, 40 rounds of CJ95 ammunition, 2,466 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, 470 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition, 73 rounds of 7.62 x 54 mm ammunition, and 112 rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm ammunition.

“The rest are 42 live bullets, six vehicles, 32 motorbikes, and eight mobile phones and other items.

“During the week under review, troops neutralized 147 people and arrested 381. Troops also arrested 23 oil thieves and rescued 113 kidnapped hostages.

“In the Northeast, Operation Hadin Kai troops neutralized 81 terrorists, arrested 52 suspects, and rescued 34 hostages.

“A total of 94 terrorists consisting of 19 adult males, 26 adult females, and 49 children, surrendered to troops in the operational area.

“In North-Central, Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke troops neutralized 17 insurgents, arrested 101 violent extremists, and rescued 23 kidnapped hostages in a week.

“In the Northwest region, Operation Hadarin Daji and Whirl Punch troops managed to neutralize 39 terrorists, arrest 192 suspects, rescue 50 kidnapped hostages, and seize a number of weapons.”
